A space to discuss all things related to pulmonary function testing! Equipment, predicted values, protocols, and challenges. I hope this will be a useful space for technicians, physicians, and others to "meet" and share information.
For discussion... there is much written about how elevated CO-Hb affects DLCO (and there are, of course, correction factors for this). I am wondering if the opposite is true - does performing a DLCO maneuver increase CO-Hb? We might start doing some non-invasive SpCO measurements in the lab before/after DLCO tests.
ReplyDeleteATS guidelines say that more than 5 attempts at DLCO will affect the results. I'm not sure where they got that from. I'd be interested in hearing your results of you measure SpCO.
ReplyDeleteDo you normally check SpCO when you do diffusions?
I am not having a lot of confidence in our SpCO measurements - we've had a few measurements of ~20% (!) in outpatients with sickle cell disease, but serum levels more like ~2-5%.
ReplyDeletedoes anyone use a DLCO simulator for callibration/quality assurance?
ReplyDeletewho uses a DLCO simulator in their lab? We do not. We need to start doing some QA for DLCO but will probably start with using a 3l syringe which should have DLCO of 0.
